Market Team Lead

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-directed and positive individual to join our team in a dynamic, front of house role at both the Farm Market and The Rooting Pig during our busy and exciting summer season. This full time position is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a passionate and knowledgeable team at a small and growing sustainable agriculture/hospitality business. This position includes plenty of opportunities to learn about regenerative agriculture and whole animal butchery.

Primary Responsibilities

Farm Market Lead (3 days/week)

  • Manage the daily operations of the Broad Arrow Farm Market, including maintaining market appearance and merchandising of products, opening and closing duties to protocol
  • Provide excellent customer service and hospitality to guests both in person and over the phone
  • Work closely with Lead Butcher and Butcher Assistant to package house made products for retail
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all market products
  • Manage transactional elements of retail sales, including using our POS, and handling cash and credit transactions

The Rooting Pig Front of House (2 days/week)

  • Open and close The Rooting Pig to protocol
  • Provide excellent and hospitable service to guests
  • Manage transactional elements of sales, including using our POS, and handling cash/credit transactions
  • Basic bar tasks including serving beer and wine, and food running 

Skills and Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is a friendly team player with a sense of urgency and an ability to multitask, has retail or service experience, and has knowledge of or interest in cooking and Real Food. What we require:

  • A genuine interest in hospitality, Real Food and good products!
  • Ability to walk and stand as required to perform essential functions, can comfortably lift 40 pounds
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships team,
  • Ability to perform essential job functions when working under stress, in fast-paced environments
  • Relevant experience in a similar capacity is preferred
  • Reliable, on-time, proactive, and prepared daily

Compensation: $20/hr + share in tips


Butcher's Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and team oriented culinary professional to join our team.  Under the direction of our Lead Butcher and Chef, this full time position works in all aspects of retail meat cutting and value-added production at Broad Arrow Farm. They will be responsible for retail cutting, grinding, and packaging of meats raised at Broad Arrow Farm, and other partner farms. In addition, the assistant will work alongside team members to create farm-based value-added products.  In this position, the butcher assistant will learn many facets of meat production from field to fork. The butcher department is rooted in nose-to-tail butchering, using as many parts as possible of the animal for retail or kitchen use. The Butcher’s Assistant must be comfortable with simple line cooking and sandwich assembly.

The butcher assistant will be eager to learn, bring creativity and have a strong work ethic to work towards and maintain the standards of meat production on the farm.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform safe, sanitary, and consistent cutting/grinding/processing/packaging to specifications
  • Work alongside the lead butcher to maintain back-of-house inventories 
  • Products: ground meat, sausages, smoked meats, general retail cuts, pates & terrines
  • Exceptional sanitation and organization
  • Willingness to assist with other kitchen operations when necessary, and work alongside team members
  • Knowledge of (or strong willingness to learn) and the ability to produce various cuts and sizes from nose to tail 
  • Proper use and maintenance of knives, hooks, saws, grinders, and other specialized equipment
  • Able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Able to lift 50+lbs regularly, and 80-90lbs on occasion, able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Adhere to safety and sanitation procedures, food safety compliance regulations and equipment maintenance standards

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in butchery and/or kitchen work
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships team,
  • Experience with value-added meat production 
  • Ability to take direction from others and work independently
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and remain physically active throughout the day
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable, on-time, proactive and prepared daily

Porter & Kitchen Assistant

Broad Arrow Farm is seeking a dependable Porter & Kitchen Assistant to provide cleaning, dishwashing, organizational and basic food preparation assistance in our market and kitchen. This is a part time (18-20hrs/week) and seasonal (June-September) position. 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Good verbal communication skills, and the ability to effectively train others in our dish washing and handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and cleanliness and/or the ability to learn.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs
